Ništa nije iskreno kao ljubav životinja

U poslu sa životinjama nema kompromisa. One zahtevaju najbolju ishranu, negu i pažnju.

Nothing is as sincere as animal’s love

Working with animals leaves no place for compromise. They need the best food, care and attention. To work in the Zoo requires a predisposition which always differ it from the majority of other jobs. This predisposition means to love animals unconditionally. Who feels and cherishes this love and also wishes to get away from the stuffy and hectic city’s atmosphere will be always welcomed in the Good Hope Garden. And not just as a visitor. About twenty volunteers every day, in perfect harmony, are in charge of the basic needs of the Zoo residents, from preparation and distribution of food to washing and walking them.

Marina Markovic has been volunteering in the Garden for the fourth year and Vuk Obradovic for a little more than two months. They both have chosen work with animals as their life aim and the Zoo was the first logical station. Soon they have overcome all fears, they established good relations with the employees there and, what is the most important, with the Garden’s residents. Today, there is no hard task for them, they often work overtime and in this line of volunteering work they find peace of mind and a wonderful way to show love for nature and nature will, certainly, repay them.

 Dance for life

Volonteri igraju istu koreografiju i šalju poruku građanima o udruživanju i zajedničkoj borbi protiv HIV-a.

 Internet biznis

 Internet Business

While more and more people worldwide are abandoning the standard office jobs and starting their own online business, this number in Serbia is still reduced to the bravest few.

However, the number of people earning via the Internet is increasing from year to year. Jelena Glišić and Dragana Vukajlović are among these brave few.

OKCE – Youth Office in Inđija

The Youth Office in Indjija is a good example showing how just a small stimulus and dedication are needed to rouse interest and engage young people in an action. This organization, with support of other institutions dealing with young people and culture, has thus challenged the rooted prejudices about the lack of interest and lethargy of young people and confirmed that there are a lot of young people just looking for an opportunity and good conditions to channel their creativity.

 HARRY POTTER SERBIA FAN CLUB

The Fan Club and the site Harry Potter Serbia have been active for eight years. They were created by some young fans of Harry Potter’s adventures who wished to start up his fan club in Serbia. Though this interest is specific, the aficionados of this phenomenon don’t actually differ much from their schoolmates. However, they successfully organized several gatherings and also welcomed the seventh book and the premiere of the last part of the film. When the conditions got tough they organized the action called Give Us Back Potter.

Though the future of this fan society is uncertain what is certain is that some fine friendships would continue.

 Fashion Choomich

Some twenty local designers managed a year ago to team up and create a nook for all lovers of designer fashion having turned once the first Belgrade Trade Center into the Choomich Design District. This active approach of young designers not only contributed to their own promotion but also improved the look of our capital, because rather neglected TC Cumic Corner in the very core of the city in the last ten years was an unpleasant city passage avoided by the citizens.

 Volonteri Crvenog Krsta

 Volunteers at the Red Cross

Many activities organized by the Red Cross wouldn’t be successful without help of volunteers. The volunteers are people coming to the Red Cross in order to contribute in the most various ways: to help victims of natural, ecological or other disasters, to save lives and health of people or to provide needed social security and protection not expecting any profit or reward.

Owing to education, the volunteers are trained to react in various situations and they are certain that their activities are useful to community.

 Zatvarnje Akademije

 Akademija Closed

Another city cult place is closed down. Musician Aleksandar Bojic from the Jailbreak Band says he is sorry and adds that instead of opening new places we are closing down well established and traditional ones. Neither petition nor gathering in order to stop wiping out the Akademija from the city top spots helped. Petar Milojevic from the Jailbreak finds the reasons in the lack of media interest for non-commercial topics and in the current poor social conditions that force many to think about bare survival so that the episodes like struggling to keep the city cult spot alive – is the issue pushed aside.

Like it was once when the real rock was being played

Not so long ago when our elders were young or, at least, less old, Belgrade used to organize great festivals dedicated to rock music and young bands. Dozens groups were fighting for their dream and their music, and the rock commune as the youth sub-culture was dominating. Duško Antonić today gladly recalls these days, but in difference to many others he undertook a concrete action to revamp a part of this atmosphere among young Belgraders. As an author of SavskoVenački URbanFest he managed to attract a great number of elementary- and secondary-school pupils. He wasn’t aware how many young rockers were there on the territory of just one Belgrade’s municipality waiting behind the scene for their moment. Popular SVURF offered them that moment and this year the festival celebrates its fifth birthday attracting more attention than ever before. This festival is intended only for young artists and not only it assembles numerous bands looking for affirmation but it expanded further including the theater and fine art, uniting kids in the positive and creative manner and awarding everyone’s effort. SURF discovers great talents like a young pianist Andrijana Jakovljević, and their five minutes had the boys from Machine Gun Band with its frontman Stefan Megić. Many wait to present themselves in the best light and now they have such a chance. If wishes and plans of Duško Antonić come true the rock music will return to all Belgrade schools.

Volunteers in the Street Children Shelter

The Center for Youth Integration organizes programs through which young people are getting chance to volunteer. One of these projects is intended for the Street Children Shelter. Volunteers in the Shelter can organize entertaining and education workshops with children. Every two weeks, at meetings held in the premises of the Shelter, plans are being worked out and volunteers are carrying them out in work with its youngest visitors. The Shelter needs more young activists who are ready to dedicate four hours a week of their free time to one of the most humanitarian activities i.e. helping children that live and work on streets.

S.U.N.D. or What Art Offers to Society

Today, young non-affirmed artists have no many opportunities to present their works. The student of painting Rastko Vidović says that one of reasons is in the fact that the media are focused on the more profitable organizations. That there is a need to create space for presenting works by non-affirmed artists was realized by students at the Fine Arts Academy. They organized the annual art show S.U.N.D. (or What Art Offers to Society). Thus they created a new art space so as to promote communication between young creative artists and the public. That this kind of promotion is useful agrees also Goran Žutić who believes that the public pays less attention to the value of an artwork and gives priority to an already heard of name.

 Students Promote Sign Language

Deaf persons are frequently faced with various difficulties during their everyday activities. In order to overcome this disadvantage it is necessary to remove barriers in communication between deaf and hearing persons. Students from different Belgrade’s faculties have taken upon themselves to surmount this barrier. They are working within the Association of Interpreters for Deaf Persons of Serbia (AOIFDP) and are resolved to make sign language familiar to hearing persons so as to ensure hearing-impaired people the equal opportunity to participate in social life.

The authors of this report are Marija Ivanov and Gordana Sučević.

 Dokukino

 Dokukino

Youth are always wishing to express their opinion but often they have no place for that. Now, the Center for New Communications called Dokukino has initiated a plan that will enable youth to be heard by those who should hear them through the creative workshops “Hear, See, Do.” At these workshops young people are getting the chance to shoot movies using cheap technologies in order to express their disapproval in connection with some current problems. A film entitled Upon That Cross criticizes the Kragujevac administration for having spent more than € 80,000 to erect a huge Orthodox cross at the city entrance while the city has no swimming pools, cinemas or libraries.

Prvih pet priloga objediniće temu aktivizma mladih kroz kulturu, umetnost, društveni i socijalni život u Srbiji.

Future journalists in the KCM Production

Having completed a three-day workshop the students of the journalist training course gathered in the KCM Production in order to start the practical part of training. At the meeting with mentors would-be journalists proposed themes for their TV reports and newspaper and online texts. Then by twos they get down to prepare recording their first contributions, finding competent people to talk with and setting terms for recording.

Upon completing the above phase the candidates will pass in the KCM Production through all segments of producing TV reports and stories for print and online media.

The first five contributions will tackle the topic of youth activism through culture, art and social life in Serbia.
