KeyConnection Media nastavlja sezonu novinarskih treninga
KeyConnection Media continues with its journalist training season
A new journalist training, the Model of Success in Serbia, gathered ten young students of journalism who are going to report about the positive examples of entrepreneurship, the innovative ideas and private initiatives for improving and developing business in Serbia. At the end of May a three-day workshop was completed and students continued with the practical part i.e. the production of TV contributions, newspaper articles and texts for on-line media.
Trainees will produce 16 stories dealing with success, challenges and problems faced by the big corporations and small business in Serbia. All TV reports will be presented at the Ekonnews program broadcast by TV Studio B, The best reports will be published in one of dailies or weeklies.
The key point in developing successful economy, according to experts, is growing small and medium business. Their potential could give a boost to domestic economy in deadlock and speed up the development trends as being proven by the recipes applied in the developed European countries.
Moda za poneti
Srbijom vlada pravi kreativni bum.

Fashion to carry
A creative boom has taken Serbia over. There is indeed a huge demand for the hand-made fashion accessories and young artists in this trade promote their goods at quite a number of sale exhibitions. Among these artists are Dijana Kršić and Nina Džananović, both economists by profession but also a creative duet that under the name “Reis&Schluss” creates some fancy handiwork and jewelry made of zippers.
To work as an author in Serbia isn’t an easy choice because the ideas or personal initiatives alike are far from being appreciated. However, an increasing number of sale exhibitions, like popular “Fashion To Carry” organized at the City Cultural Center show that we face the period of acknowledging the fact that the author’s work is actually very important. The question remains whether the state will recognize the value of self-initiative and one’s own effort and establish standards that would affirm the value of handiwork on the market and thus grant it the place it deserves.

From Hobby to Business
Dog competition judge Rade Vesić is an excellent example how to turn one's hobby into a good business venture. Namely, few years ago Rade bought a Doberman Max and soon began training dogs. His Doberman Jetro and the mini Pinscher Misha have so far won more than 100 trophies at the international competitions. Vesić holds that a secret of successful business is offering a rare product to the market.
In his training center he will soon get also the miniature German Pinschers – the unique breed in the world. That the Masterhof Training Center grants the top quality is evident from their waiting list which includes dog lovers from all parts of the planet.

Lucky by rights
The lack of self-assurance, ambition, confidence and courage are only some factors contributing to a poor position of women in entrepreneurship. For that reason the European Commission inaugurated in 2009 a project entitled the Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors. Among respected members of this network are ten most successful women entrepreneurs from Serbia.
See how the real road to success looks like and how you can become a model for all those waiting for the “right moment.”

Jugoslovenska kinoteka

Yugoslav Cinematheque
In time of the severe economic crises there is one institution that has managed to survive and preserve its identity and tradition. Though Yugoslavia is gone for good a long time ago, the Yugoslav Film Library by its name is still defying time and in the unique way keeps memory of the turbulent past whose segments had been recorded by camera.

Privatni sektor Zapadne Srbije
Danas ponosno doprinose razvitku privrede u Zapadnoj Srbiji.

SWest Serbia's Private Sector
In spite of a dire situation prevailing in the Serbian economy, some companies in Gornji Milanovac are just thriving – their products are exported worldwide, even to the remote Ivory Coast.
The company "9th September" manufactures disposable medical supplies, while the company "Twiggy" is the only manufacturer of certain kind of straws in the Balkans.
Their owners had left the state-owned enterprises in the eighties last century having embarked on the risky private business.
Today, they are proud to contribute to the economic development of West Serbia.

Svilajnac – the Serbian economic miracle
In the last three years the foreign and home companies have invested € 20 million, three foreign companies started up production and export, the Nature Center is under construction, the recycling yard also, and.
In the process is growing the first organic pig in Serbia – for one town in Serbia it is quite an economy one may say.
We examined how the Svilajnac municipality helps both the foreign investors and local businessmen likewise and possible problems they face when developing their initial ideas. That we here have a real economic boom is clear, so we tried to find out the success formula from the municipality's vice-president Predrag Milanović.

Zdravlje nema cenu
Svetska ekonomska kriza nesumnjivo utiče na sve segmente nasih života. Shodno situaciji, svi imaju isti cilj, a to je ušteda.

Health Has No Price
The world economic crisis has undoubtedly had the profound effect on all segments of our lives. The situation is such that we all have but a single goal – to save. However, when our skin and the whole organism are concerned we ought to be more flexible when deciding where to save.
How much our fellow citizens respect the above advice and whether the cosmetic products top the list when we save we asked our guest Ana Kukić, the employee at the DONA Cosmetic Shop.
About cosmetic products and soap manufacturing we spoke with Ankica Egelja, the owner of the "Sapun" Co. and with Bora Marjanović, the owner of "Bones Group" Co. They were kind to answer our questions related to the impact of the crisis on their trade, how to keep buyers, about the whole manufacturing process and what is needed to get a high quality final product.

Family Trade
Old crafts as the model of success in Serbia are rare today. However, in spite of industrialization some still survive and even expand their business. Tool maker by vocation, Vukašin Pančić founded a half of century ago the workshop “Mikron” producing the hanging candle holders, wedding crowns and hundreds of other objects for church. Today his son Vladimir carries out the majority of work including managing in both the workshop and the retail shop in Belgrade’s “Peyton Place” that he inherited. All members of the family are active in manufacturing and selling these objects and now they make plans to expand their production.

Kriket u Srbiji

Cricket in Serbia
A good example that success in Serbia depends primarily on a good idea and not on money is the Belgrader of Greek origin, Haris Dajč. Actually, for four years he has been persistent in his attempt to promote cricket in Serbia. When the first pioneer steps were made, the future of this sport in Serbia was vague. However, to the first cricket players in Serbia this was just an additional stimulus to promote this sport regarded across the Commonwealth countries as being almost equal to religion. On the basis of achieved results it is clear that for the time being we are not actually going to become a cricket nation. Still,150 citizens of Serbia who play cricket actively in Belgrade, Čačak, Valjevo and the place of Sovljak near Ub, prove that sport has no boundaries.

Safe driver

Safe Driver
Serbia is one of countries with a high rate of killed in traffic accidents per inhabitant. The responsible drivers have been since recently given the chance to, in case that they “forget themselves” and have a glass or two more than tolerated, just call the agency that will help them to avoid a traffic accident or penalty in a quite uncommon way..
One phone call and drivers calling such an agency will be returned back home safely driven by the agency driver.

DAH TETAR
Takođe, pesmama i pričama o gradu će promovisati duh tolerancije i multietničkih razlika.

Tradition as the model of success
The coffeehouses in Serbia have always been places with a vibrant public life.
The coffeehouse was a place where it was possible to make business, celebrate the birth of a baby or simply have a rest after a hard physical labor. It was frequented by the Serbian farmer as well as the city dweller and they couldn’t imagine their lives without it.
Times have changed and some new kids start frequenting the coffeehouses keeping on this tradition. Though many of the coffeehouses were closed in the nineties, in the last several years the urban coffeehouses keep pace with the popular river cafes.

Ketering
Catering
Fast life is no doubt the reason that we dedicate less and less time to the healthy diet and preparations of food, especially for special occasions like parties and celebrations. This is why catering has becoming more and more popular and attractive option especially because you can now order a homemade food, which tastes as if fresh from your granny's kitchen.
Who are the people using this service, when exactly they choose catering, how difficult it is to be successful in Serbia today and many other questions we ask our guests Dragana Ferlinc, Aleksandar Bjelić and Aleksandar Stevanović.

A Humanoid Robot
Students from the Belgrade University have won another award from one of the prestigious international competitions, after spending a two-and-half years of diligent and meticulous work on creating the Humanoid Robot Project. Their idea was to imitate the anatomy and movements of human being. However, apart from the praises in the media and the support of their faculty no tangible benefits have turned up. Not only there are no offers for jobs but they still haven't received grants for their further advancement.
Though these young talents say that they would like to continue studying in Serbia it is no secret that there are chances for them to be continuing their education and work abroad. This will only prove that the trend of "brain drain" goes on.

If you're sluggish – there is someone to do it for you
Fewer and fewer citizens of Serbia are willing to undertake an apparently big move – setting up their own business. As the majority will say, they fear to start "own" business because of the complex procedures, the lack of money and the risk of failure but also because they lack resourcefulness. In order to show that things are not so tricky and complex we present some successful entrepreneurs who had started with a really funny idea that eventually developed into a serious business and know-how.Have a look at these brave young people and find out what they consider to be a key moment of success – if you also wish to make a big change.

NOVINARSKI TRENING REGIONALNE I MEĐUNARODNE INTEGRACIJE SRBIJE
Trening će trajati do polovine maja.
Journalist training for the regional and international integrations of Serbia
Last week, a 3-day seminar on the regional and international integrations of Serbia was completed. The seminar was actually an introduction into producing contents for television newspaper and on-line media. Next, the students moved to the premises of the Keyconnection Media where together with their mentors from three Belgrade’ universities they would be selecting themes to report about and fix terms and schedules of filming.
The training group consists of the students of the final year at three Belgrade’s universities. Judging by their interest and engagement during the seminar they appear to be strong-minded and, as future journalists, quite ready to undertake concrete production tasks. For the time being they are divided into five groups and the first reports will be produced by two students to be followed by next two etc.
The regional and international integrations of Serbia have been in the last 10 the most present theme on the social and political agendas. In the next three months we expect to see what our students, upon completion of their training, will present about these leading topics.
Their reports will be published by newspapers and broadcast by TV Studio B and other local stations in Serbia.
The training will be finished by the first half of May.

Women in Army
This year Serbia has got the first generation of women to command the professional units in the Army. Having adopted the Resolution 1325 and completing the National Action Plan at the beginning of this year, Serbia has become a leader in the region and by its successful military reform is now ahead of some European countries.
Army cadet Mirjana Borovina says that she would like to obtain a degree in military chemistry. She has never regretted decision to enlist the Military Academy because its diploma grants her a secure job. Government secretary at the Defense Ministry, Tanja Mišćević, has been proud of the fact that an increasing number of women show interest to participate in the security system of their country.

IsHASSAPljeni burek
As from May 2009 all those involved in producing, serving or selling food need to have a HACCP- based standard. The very word has a hair-rising effect on bakers because, they say, paperwork costs up to 3,000 Euros. Apart from fear they may go bankrupt some bakers believe that applying the HACCP procedure will change their traditional recipes. We have a look into the matter and here’s what we have discovered – the standard can be cost-free and the recipes remain unchanged.

Smoke-Free Law
The Law on Protection of Citizens from Tobacco Smoke Exposure in Serbia has been in effect for six months. The purpose of our research was to find out if the Belgraders obey the Law, how many of them have been fined for smoking and whether anybody decided to stop smoking due to this Law. Dr Petar Borović from the Counseling Office for Detoxification at the Batut Institute and his patient Svetlana Apostolović agree that the point of this law is not in punishing but in making people aware that smoking is dangerous for both the smokers and those around them alike. The Dept. Head of Sanitary Inspection in the City of Belgrade, Dr Radosav Mitrović says that the majority of citizens obey smoke-free law but that there are some who were fined by sanitary inspectors.

OBUKA IT 65 +

Training IT 65 +
The progress of Serbia in the informatics domain is another step forward on its road to the European Union. For this purpose numerous actions are being organized in order to promote and expand digital literacy. Target group includes those who, in general, lack this knowledge. Though informatics courses have been initiated recently they are accepted extremely well, which shows the example of those attending such trainings at the Belgrade City Library organized for elderly citizens.

CouchSurfing – surfing on couch
One can tour the world at a bargain price as shows the experience of members of a worldwide network CouchSurfing. Almost 3 million its members travel from continent to continent by surfing on couches – for free. What one needs is to register and become a member of this social network, to select a desired destination, contact the local members who offer free accommodation – and to set out on their dream travel. This branch of tourism is based on hospitability and goodwill. The ambassador of CouchSurfing in Belgrade, Maja Gršić, claims that this sort of traveling is safe. Two travel lovers, Alberto from Brazil and Marta from Poland, who picked Serbia of all world destinations owing to CouchSurfing network, shared their stories with us. Miloš from Belgrade tells us why he has chosen to go on this surfing adventure and what are its advantages in comparison with globe trekking via travel agencies.

PRIVREMENI ODLIV MOZGOVA

TEMPORARY BRAIN DRAIN
To stay or to leave is a common dilemma present for quite a time in Serbia. How tempting it the idea of leaving is best shows the USAID statistics according to which Serbia rates second in the world by the rate of brain drain. Such data are understandable considering that the option “over there and here” is actually the choice between what Serbia aims at and the way it has been trying to achieve it, which is not easy at all. However, there are ways to do both if you are a student. The organizations like PEXIM Foundation and Zoran Djindjic Fund offer students the possibility to advance through either master studies or practice in other countries and use their experiences when they return home. This is the topic we discussed with the fellowship holders who had attended or were going through these programs.

Belgrade bids for the 2020 European Capital of Culture
Belgrade is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe owing primarily to its location and its rich history.
The number of tourists is constantly growing but there is enough place to welcome more visitors. In order to attract them Belgrade plans to enrich its cultural offer.
For centuries Serbia was producing very successful artists and today we can boast with their names and achievements. However, it is sad that just few in Serbia can name these great figures of our past. Young people favor the Internet, fashionable clothing, nightlife, chillout. Cultural events are in the second plan.
If Belgrade’s application gets a positive response and the EU designates it for the 2020 European Capital of Culture this will improve its cultural capacity and also contribute to raising the awareness of its citizens for cultural events.

Festivals – magnets for foreign visitors
Magnets for tourists can be the historical monuments, architecture, the sea or mountains. True, we have no sea like Montenegro, Croatia and Bulgaria nor we have mountains like Austria and France, nor we have spas like Slovenia but as a quite attractive alternative we offer – festivals. No matter what city you pick on the map of Serbia there is definitely at least one festival going on. Thousands of tourists visiting either the capital or the province every year have to fight for a ticket – because festivals have definitely become Serbia’s IDCard.

Istraživali smo i došli do zaključka - nedovoljno!

Frozen music
Since 2005 up to 90 per cent café houses in Italy have no music playing inside. Five years later, the same lot struck about one fifth of all café bars in Serbia. The reason is the same – very high costs of rights to reproduce music. One of conditions for joining the European Union is adopting the Law on Copyrights. Though Serbia adopted this Law, the question remains whether it is properly implemented. We looked into the matter and this is what we concluded – not as it should be! What is phonogram; what is that a café bar owner should do so as not to pay high penalties for an unauthorized reproduction of music; which authority controls café bars and sets proper tariff … and finally, are we doomed to sit in cafes with music frozen?

Book Fair
Though Serbia was a country in the focus at this year’s book fair in Leipzig, a real character of this manifestation was actually regional. If we are unable to cooperate on the Balkans we can do so on the neutral German ground. Sasa Ilic, who launched his project Traduki, demonstrated an interesting literary exchange between writers from Serbia and Kosovo. Apart from gathering many writers from both the country and the region, this Fair for the first time dedicated its attraction to comics, which as an alternative culture in the nineties last century, was the only media connecting deeply divided societies in the region. Borka Pavicevic, from the Center for Cultural Decontamination pointed that cultural cooperation on the Balkans had been always alive and that only political and nationalist system terminated its cooperation. Our countries border and share the same region and consequently, languages and history. Therefore we are naturally interconnected and it is on us to use this advantage in order to overcome our differences.

First biomass plant in Serbia
After tragedy that struck Japan and threats of possible nuclear catastrophe, the advantage of renewable resources of energy is obvious. Soon, Serbia will run a power plant on biomass from grass or corn and not on fossil fuel. In the village of Dragacica near Cacak, the first biomass power plant will be put into operation. How ecological power is actually generated and what are its advantages we have learned from the power plant owner, Milan Filipovic.

Organska hrana

ORGANIC FOOD
In our hectic modern life with everyday obligations we often overlook the need to eat healthy food but instead we consume fast food, a five-minute snack full of additives and chemicals.
In the Belgrade borough Barajevo there is one family aware that strength, health and love enter our body through mouth. In their garden they grow organic healthy food not only for their needs but also for their friends and fellow citizens.

Đorđe i Goran očekuju veću pomoć države, bolju organizovanost i dugoročan agrarni koncept.

Serbian agriculture has potential but lacks help
Having visited the Paris Agricultural Fair 14 farmers from the district of Sumadija got the opportunity to see new equipment and technology from the EU countries and to exchange experiences with their colleagues in this line of work.
My village, lovelier than Paris! This is perhaps the first sentence that farmers Djordje Lazarevic and Goran Mijaijlovic said upon their return from France. Owing to financial support by the city of Kragujevac they had a chance to visit one of the biggest agricultural fairs held in Paris.
Besides organizing its own agricultural fair, Kragujevac also awards the most successful farmers by sending them to visit the international agricultural fairs.
Upon returning to their native village of Cumic they couldn’t hide excitement. However, they wonder if one day it would be possible for them to apply at least a part of all things they saw in France.
Don’t pick worries but plums! This is a good advice but what to do when there are less and less plums and more and more worries.
The district of Sumadija has its brand, the sort of plum called Madjarka. In the recent years, however, many orchards have been cleared away.
Serbia has natural resources but what troubles our Serbian farmer is fruit production that yields no profit. Djordje and Goran expect from the state to subsidize fruit production, to ensure a better organization and a long-term agricultural concept.

Wind farm Čibuk- first wind turbines in Serbia
Very soon, the first wind turbines could be installed in Serbia. Building of the first wind farm in Serbia will start next year. Investors, Continental Wind Partners (Continental Wind Serbia), company focused on a market of renewable sources all around the world, find out that South Banat is perfect locations for a wind farm. Wind farm Čibuk will cover land of 4 thousand ha. A 12 km long wind farm is going to have a 100 wind turbines and each one of them will be high a 12 meters. In addition to producing a 300 MW, wind farm Čibuk will produce clean electricity for more than 300 000 households in Serbia.
